Rop van Mierlo poster Mandrill

Rop van Mierlo, an illustrator who lives and works in Amsterdam, is best known for his picture book Wild Animals – now a classic which won a Dutch Design Award in 2011 which can be found at MoMA New York, Design Museum, London, and Colette in Paris. His signature ‘wet-on-wet’ style has led to interesting collaborations with partners such as Hermès, Marni, Head Porter and Stedelijk Museum. In 2020 van Mierlo received the Vimeo Best of the Year Award in New York for his work Trippy Isolator / Dances with Wolves, a music video for DJ and producer Young Marco. .

As an artist, van Mierlo is intrigued by the human need to control nature – which is why he paints animals (in a way) he can’t control. We are adding seven of these intriguing, semi-abstract and shape-shifting creatures to our poster collection, and letting them roam freely on paper and in your imagination. We think they will be favourites with adults and children alike.
