Description

The Atol candleholder series of Lex Pott originated from a fascination with glass – in particular, the moment when the glass is hot and can be moulded into various shapes. Lex Pott made tests in plaster and balloons to mimic the plastic glass. The objects consist of a hand-blown sphere which is then pressed by hand. This ensures a plastic and natural shape, as the liquid glass guarantees a perfect surface tension. These candleholders are intended as centerpieces that remain beautiful and even when not in use. The design language is inspired by the plasticity and sculptural value of traditional hand-formed glass. All objects are unique and blown by hand in Leerdam in the Netherlands. It is as if the candles are pressed into the shape of the glass. As a result, the creation process and the final form come together harmoniously. Every piece is unique.

about the designer

Lex Pott (1985) employs a raw and intuitive method. In his work, he returns to the origin of the materials he uses most: wood, stone, glass and metal. He does not hide his designs under indirect layers, but reduces them to their very essence. Pott works from his design studio based in Rotterdam. He graduated cum laude in 2009 at the Design Academy Eindhoven.
